Licensing Question...

Dear CoachVille R&D Team Member,

We are just now starting to license some of the personal development programs such as Personal Evolution, Perfect Life, Attraction, Personal Foundation, CyberSkills, eMarketing, 5-day TeleClass Leader and more.

The first program we are licensing is the Attraction Program

Key Points

1.  CoachVille and LifeVille members DO have the right to use these programs for themselves and for clients one a 1-1 basis, with no extra license required.

2.  But if a member (or anyone else) wants to teach a class, TeleClass, workshop, internal training, etc., they need to buy a onetime, lifetime Teaching License which runs -- for the Attraction Program -- $79 for CV or LV members and $129 for non-members.

3. Why?

4. Cuz I want to control the group teaching of my stuff.  Too many folks have been watering it down over the years and turning it into milque toast.

5. And, I think it's a good source of revenue that we can use to create MORE programs like this -- on our way to 100 such programs, of course!  It is NOT inexpensive to research, design, craft, test, proof and package these programs.

6. The Teaching License includes just that -- a license to teach.  I don't expect that we'll have a teaching guide or e-workbook for these programs at least at first, but I do agree it's important that we develop some of these.  The only difference between a CV/LV member and a CV/LV member who is also a licensee is that they can teach the program to groups - and they also get a PowerPoint (ppt) file in case they have a projector.

7. Each of the eventually-100 programs will have their own teaching license -- I don't plan to offer a single 'inclusive' license at this point.

8. I simply do not know what % of members will buy a teaching license.  I am guessing maybe 1% of members per program that we offer for licensing.

9. I don't think members will have a problem with this extra/upgrade fee for licensing, but they may feel duped.  (I've made this clear in at the CV site now before one joins, but you never know what folks will react to...)

10.  Teaching licenses are one source of additional revenue for CoachVille.  Other sources include group sales, affiliate sales/referral fees, live TeleClasses, CDs/audios and other memberships like etrainerville, lifeville, etc.

Questions for you...

1.  Like/dislike the basic strategy of licensing for teaching/group use?  Suggestions/Additions?

2.  Thoughts on what I've written below in License Information Area for the Attraction License?

3.  Thoughts on what I've written below that now displays at the top of the Attraction Program page at the CV member area?

4. Any other structural changes/tweaks that you see?

5. What do I do about folks who want to add some/all of a program's content to their website?  I can't figure out what to do about these requests.

Please note:
The attraction program content is for your exclusive and personal use and use with clients on a 1-1 basis only.  If you wish to teach these principles to groups in TeleClass, workshop speech or other presentation/course, you'll need to upgrade to the Lifetime Teaching License.  Information here.  (This is true for most of our programs. Your CoachVille or LifeVille membership gives you rights to use the materials/concepts with folks on a 1-1 basis, but not a group basis, unless you've purchased the teaching license upgrade on a program-by-program basis.  The teaching license for this program is available instantly online.  Just click here. )

(The CV Member then sees the slides/PDFs of the program here.)

Key Points
About Licensing the Attraction Program
1. Anyone may license this program.
2. Most who license this program are members of CoachVille and/or LifeVille.
3. Your license runs for your lifetime and the one-time cost is US$79 for CoachVille/LifeVille Members and US$129 for non-CoachVille/LifeVille members.
4. Your license permits/encourages you to teach or present this program to groups, i.e., a workshop, speech, training, TeleClass.
5. Your license does not permit you to turn this program into an ezine or a course-by-email type of course.
6. We only license individuals, not companies, firms or groups.  Each person who conducts this program must have his/her own license.
7. With your license, you may teach this program to as many people as you wish and keep 100% of any revenues for yourself.

Materials/Resources Included

With this license, you are acquiring the right to teach the Attraction Program, but we do include the PowerPoint presentation file, exclusively, with your license.

Very Important
Grounds for losing your license
You simply may not change any of the 28 principles or how they are worded or how their taglines are worded. You may give your own examples of each principle, of course, but you must, repeat must, keep the phrasing of the principles and taglines exactly as they are.  This is really important.  Some presenters have tried to tweak the principles because they liked their version of it better.  They have lost their licenses.  The 28 principles and taglines are perfect as is.  Part of the process of coming to understand the richness and subtlety of this program is to respect the nuances of how things are phrased.  Every word and phrase used has been included for a reason.  It's a little bit like trying to change AA's 12-steps.  Sure, you could, but then it wouldn't be the 12 steps.

For example, some coaches think principle #1 -- "Become incredibly selfish" is too harsh so they want to soften it to "Become incredibly self-full."  Sorry, you can't do that.  These coaches "haven't gotten it yet" about the richness and inherent generosity of selfishness nor have they gotten through their cultural bias around the term selfishness.  Attraction isn't going to work very well if you can't work through this first principle.

So, if you're tempted to tweak one of more of the principles, that should tell you that you haven't gotten that one yet.  I'm not trying to be a pain here.  It' just that I've just seen folks try to water down or put a spin on the 28 principles.  Which would make this a different program.  Please believe me.  And don't change a single word in the title or tagline of the principles.
