Group Coaching Business Model
Here is a quick example of a Coaching Business from what Coach Dave’s practice looked like in 2001
- 20 1-1 clients paying $350/month for 2-hours of coaching = $7,000 for 40 hours
- 32 Group clients in 4 groups of 3 hours per month for $195/month = $6,240 for 12 hours
- Bonus - one hour All client call each month to build community among all of my clients
- Former 1-1 and group clients are invited also - a great way to stay connected and engaged
- New client attraction = 4 1-hour teleclasses each month FREE to the members of my database
(each week a different topic)
- Weekly eZine = approximately 1-hour per week
- Client management and billing = 4 hours per month
Total time = 65 hours per month Total revenue = $13,240 per month
I also generated approximately $7,000 / month in revenue with paid teleclass programs and live workshops and training for just under $250K / year total.
The Queen of Group Coaching tells her story
Coach Ginger Cockerham, MCC
This course was developed by and is still taught by the coach who literally wrote the book on Group Coaching: Coach Ginger!
Coach Ginger is a true pioneer in the field. She coaches groups that she forms herself from individuals who want to hire her AND she is hired by organizations to coach groups of employees.
She brings a depth of knowledge and an infectious passion for the craft that she has helped define.
Case Study I Getting Started as a Group Coach in Companies
One of my favorite clients in 1997 was an executive in a financial services company. After coaching her for two years, her business had systems in place, she was delegating regularly, her employees were working as an effective team, and she had created time to take care of herself and enjoy her life. She always loved the business she was in; she was just frustrated that she had to work so hard without getting the results she felt capable of. After coaching, she was achieving at the highest level in her company.
She talked to me about what a great business financial service was for women and how many were leaving before they were there five years. She said I wish we could get coaching for women so that they could establish their businesses and create the life style that she had. We brainstormed about how we could get the company to sponsor coaching. The cost of providing individual coaching for advisors was not feasible for the company, so we talked about putting the women in groups.
She flew from Seattle to the home office of the Company in the Mid-West and did a power point before three key decision makers in the company and got the program approved. We did a year pilot program for women who had been in the business from three to five years. At the end of six months, I did a deliverable to the company with testimonials from the participants and a recap of their production numbers. The most important result was that none of the women who participated in the groups left the company.
The following year the program expanded to 10 groups. The price point for the groups was $600 a month per group. Groups met twice a month for one-hour. Each group had from five to seven advisors as members. I coached groups in the company for five years, and the program continues on today with internal coaches leading the groups.
This program was the pilot for me and allowed me to get the experience and credibility in an industry and with group coaching. The price point has changed dramatically, but that opportunity gave me the launch that has allowed me to be extremely successful in my coaching business while giving me the flexibility to do other things I love.
Revenue: 10 Groups X $600 / group = $6,000 per month
Time Commitment: 10 Groups X 2 hours per month per group = 20 hours Coaching per month
20 Hours coaching per month = $6,000 Revenue Per Month -> NICE!
Case Study II My Model for Coaching Groups in Financial Services Companies
Focus: Help the company stay on par with competitors who have more advisors reaching MDRT (Million Dollar Round Table) than this company had. The company goal was for us to create two groups of top tier agents (6 to 8 in a group) to achieve MDRT by the end of the group coaching time span.
The agreement with the company was for a pilot program for six months and then if the results looked good to continue the program for another full year. The agreement was for the company to pay $250 per person in the groups for the pilot program and then to increase the payment to my typical per person cost in a coaching group to $295.00 a month. That includes 2 monthly one-hour meetings with their group members as their coach. (One company had an internal coach that I was a part of all the calls and that I mentored in the group coaching process) It also included laser coaching with me for each individual in the groups on a scheduled as wanted/needed basis.
The results were so promising in the first six months, that the company continued the groups for the following year. The ROI on the groups was terrific. The company got the majority of agents to the MDRT level and the agents were thrilled with their results. One participant said,” I have been trying to reach this industry standard for 15 years and with a coach and the support of the group, I was finally able to achieve the success I have wanted.”
Revenue: The one year contracts with this company exceed $4,200.00 in revenue per month for my coaching business.
Time commitment: > 4 hours per month coaching the two groups > 3 hours per month in laser coaching time. = 7 Hours total per month
7 Hours coaching per month = $4,200/ month. VERY NICE!
