Graduation Day is
Here!
Based on recommendations and requests from CoachVille and SOC
members, and spearheaded by Donna Steinhorn, Content Integration
Director and Senior Project Manager, we are in the process of
redesigning graduation and certification for the School of Coaching!
What's
new for the SOC?
As many of you can remember, the SOC was actually referred to
the Graduate School of Coaching (GSC) in its infancy.
Since Thomas Leonard’s original creation in 2002, the GSC
morphed into what is now known as the Schools of Coaching, comprised
of 10 schools. Each of the schools will have its own graduation
requirements to be taken from 100 hours of classes offered.
50 hours will be designated as required, 50 hours will be
available as electives. The
first school ready for graduation will be the basic School of
Coaching.
The curriculum is currently offered as live teleclasses and
real-audio (a previously recorded teleclass that a student can
listen to via electronic medium). We
are strongly considering the option of Saturday classes.
In addition, we will be announcing a live event track that we
know you’ll be tremendously excited about.
Graduation
Requirements
The Schools of Coaching will have 2 levels of completion.
It is important to understand the distinction between
certification and graduation. To
be a Graduate of the
School will mean completion of the graduation requirements for that
particular school. For
example, you may choose to pursue graduation of the School of Small
Business Coaching. This
pathway will be explained shortly.
Certification signifies
graduation from one of the individual Schools in the SOC, in
addition to a practical evaluation of coaching proficiency.
To graduate from one of the Schools of Coaching, the
student must:
Complete
the 50 required class hours
Complete
25 hours of class electives
Pass
the module tests (A passing grade of 75% on all tests will be
required to pass)
Classes are combined into modules, with each module
consisting of 5-10 related classes.
Here’s an example of what a module will look like:
Module 1: The Coachville Coaching System
2400. SOC
New Member Orientation
2401. Learning
the CoachVille Coaching System
2403. Introducing
Your Clients to New Frameworks
2407. Understanding
the 15 Client Deliverables
2441. Introduction
to the 15 Listening Clarifiers
2459. Introduction
to the 15 Coaching Principles
When
a student completes all of the required classes in a module, he/she
may take the exam for that module.
The testing system will automatically “prepare” an exam
of 50 questions randomly selected from the available questions for
that class. *As an
aside, we are looking for SOC students to sample our test questions
and provide feedback on the testing.
If you have taken, or are taking SOC classes, and are
interested in volunteering, please send an email indicating your
interest to kerul@coachville.com.
Here's
what you had to say
Earlier
this month, we sent an email to the CoachVille R&D team asking
for their input on graduation requirements.
Not surprisingly, we received a lot of excellent feedback and
several consistent questions. One
of the questions that often came up was whether students would be
required to graduate from each of the schools.
Absolutely not. This
is just an option for those who desire graduation.
We recognize that many of our students have already graduated
from other coach training programs and may not have the desire to
graduate from our schools. Rather, they’re interested in taking the classes as a means
of life long learning.
Another question that was asked was whether or not students
would get credit for classes they already completed. The answer is yes. If
you’d like to check which classes you’ve taken, check your member
record.
Several coaches inquired about the order in which classes
would be taken. In the spirit of adult learning, you may take the
classes in any order you desire.
As you can see, there are a lot of exciting things happening
at CoachVille, and we will keep you engaged and informed every step
of the way. Future
issues of the CoachVille Member News will feature our new live event
track for graduation, certification requirements, and much more!
