Top 10 Reasons to Start An Ezine Of Your Own
copyright 2001 by ThomasLeonard.com

1. You become the host of a network.
Your 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000 subscribers make you this host of this network. People know you. You get to know the needs of your network. There is partnership/synergy. You have power. Things flow to you. A vacuum is created; attraction works easily in this environment.

2. You develop an international reputation.
Your subscribers will come from all over and they will get to know you and your competencies by reading what you write. Credibility is established naturally; no selling/convincing needed. So, when people do call to hire you, they are ready to buy and don't waste your time. All that you've given away via your broadcasts has educated them on who you are, what makes you special and what you can do for them.

3. You have thousands of people who can buy something from you.
If you were to average all of your subscribers, you will find that they will probably buy between $1 and $30 of goods or services from you each year. Another way to say it is that 2-10% of subscribers will buy something from you and the other 90-98% will never buy something from you. Let's say you have 10,000 subscribers. Figure about 500 of them will buy a TeleClass, book, tape, coaching or group coaching from you. Say 30 of them buy coaching at $3000 per person per year, 400 buy TeleClasses at $200 per person per year and 300 buy books and tapes worth $30 per person per year. (Note: Some will buy more than one type of thing, which is why the numbers don't add up to 500.) That adds up to $179,000 annually ($90,000+$80,000+$9,000). Divide that by your 10,000 subscribers and you get a per subscriber 'average' revenue of $17.90.

4. You really tap into the power of the Internet.
Being the broadcaster of a newsletter or daily/weekly tip sheet involves you in the Internet and makes you player. This is where you want to position yourself intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. The Internet is where the action is and once you get started in this way, you'll start tapping into the flow/power of the Internet and meeting others who are doing the same. The energy is contagious and you quickly 'become someone' by offering something of this nature.

5. Your creative juices start flowing.
When you write your newsletter or tips, you start the creative juices flowing. And when you get feedback from your subscribers, you become an even better writer. There is something about listening and learning from a totally new group of people that can bring out your best and lead you in new directions. The synergy is palpable. You become more dynamic and more in tune with what people want and need today, thus giving you more ideas to write about and opportunities to serve.

6. You'll be creating rich content for your website, at the same time.
Having a content-rich, useful website is becoming increasingly important if you want to build a reputation. By writing daily/weekly tips/newsletters, you automatically are creating content for your website, thus making your presence (email plus website) that much more compelling.

7. You can more easily fill your practice.
Coaches/consultants who have taken my advice and launched e-newsletters and tip broadcasts are more able to fill their practice because that many more people know about them and what they do. People who read e-newsletters and tips come to form a virtual (yet real) relationship with who distributes/writes them. Bonding occurs. And, subscribers pass around your better newsletters/tips to their friends and networks. It beats sending out brochures!

8. You can create sources of passive/residual revenue.
If you are a coach or consultant or any other services professionals, you have to work in order to earn. In other words, you don't get paid while you're on vacation unless you have other professionals earning for you. But with a network of 1,000, or 100,000 subscribers, you can earn while on vacation, by offering them products such as books and tapes, or training programs that someone else leads either on your behalf or for which you get a referral fee. You can even create a web-based product store and outsource the fulfillment.

9. New, unexpected opportunities open up.
By putting yourself out there into the Internet in this way, you meet others doing interesting things on the Internet, and you come across other Internet-related ideas that you realize YOU CAN DO SOMETHING WITH. But if you're not actively working in the Internet, you wouldn't have seen these opportunities or known what to do about them. By broadcasting your e-newsletter or tip sheet, you elevate your orbit, so you can see more and figure out how to leverage it.

10. It's fun, and energizing.
Did I mention that being the host of your network and broadcasting stuff out is fun? It is! Virtually everyone who's done this gets juice from it. Reason enough.
