Top 10 Tips On Writing Your Newsletter/Tips

1. Keep it short...or long.
If a newsletter, 2-3 pages is fine. If longer, include a table of contents at the top so folks can see what your topics are for this issue. If a tip, keep it to 1-3 SHORT paragraphs. Make it so they can read it in less than one minute.

2. Speak to the reader.
Use words like 'you' not 'one' or 'people.' Write like you are having a conversation with them, not lecturing them or telling stories about theory/coulds.

3. Avoid cliches.
And jargon and the obvious.

4. Don't steal other's copyrighted stuff.
It's wrong and it makes you look like a thief.

5. Include a promotional plug at the end of your newsletter/tip.
Keep it short and distinct from the newsletter/tip.

6. Subscribers come and go.
Don't take it personally.

7. Your list will grow like wildfire, or it will poke along.
You may get 5,000 or 25,000 subscribers in your first year. Or, 100-1000. If you've got a poker, jazz it up, promote it better, come up with more topics that more people care about, or find someone else to write it for you.

8. Offer something to your subscribers besides just information.
Offer to help them solve a problem? Offer to put them in touch with someone who can help them with something. Offer to carry an announcement about something they need in your next newsletter. Ask them what they want to read/learn about. Offer free TeleDiscussions or classes. Offer something to get them to respond to you. When you have a virtual dialog, trust builds.

9. Send out your newsletter weekly or daily.
Not monthly. Tips are good fo daily or weekly broadcast. Newsletters are best for weekly broadcast. Don't wait a month between newsletter, though.

10. Keep your newsletter free.
Even if you would like to charge, don't. There are other ways to make money at this than having 3 paying subscribers.
